Laura Brown is a fine artist, based in Kent. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Liverpool and then went on to complete her Jewellery design diploma in Jaipur, India and remained there for 6 years. Eva Ray Studio, was named after her grandparents and was founded on her return from India.
Laura’s work is influenced by her time living and working in India. Working as a jewellery designer, Laura studied tribal motifs and forms and her research would take her to desert villages where she became fascinated by the fresco murals and textures. The simplistic house murals and decorative marks, awakened a love for intuitive, quick mark making.
Laura’s paintings assemble areas of colour in blocks or layered colour to create pattern within these areas or within the composition as a whole. Laura works in oil sticks and pastels, they allow her to feel physically close to the painting and allow energy and movement through the pressure of the mark making.
Laura now lives in Whitstable, Kent where she paints from her studio by the sea.
